Lets go back a few years to the late summer of 2003. We had just moved to Charleston, South Carolina and were setting up life on the East coast. I was born a blond. Blond up to my teens and with the help of bleach, blond thereafter. Thus the up keep to help me staying stylish.
I had my trusted stylists but they were 3000 miles away in San Gorge, Utar. And fun the began...
I bought a box of do it yourself all over blond with added hi-lights and long story short and a few hours later...... no natural blond with glistening hi-lights.....just red hair with orange streaks. What to do? I went to the mall and had some dumb girl dye it dark brown. I wasn't going to keep it dark so as it faded it turned mousy and green. I had more hi lights put in and slowly but surely the green hue was wearing off. Until.... Presidents day 2004.
More blond..... left it on WAY to long and botta bing... I had handfuls of bleached out string in my hands and splotches everywhere. Whats a girl to do? Well, don't ask your husband, mine said "Why don't you just shave it?" He caught me at the right moment for sure.
So there we sat in my laundry room, with the clippers taking it all off. Yes, I cried and cried and did not feel pretty or like a girl at all. It was a free haircut but ended up being the most expensive cut I ever had. I immediately bought all colors of bandannas and hats, hair growing pills (which don't work) and because of late night depression watched all sorts of infomercials and QVC buying all that I thought would be fun at the moment i.e. juicer, boob pills, jewelry, exercising equipment and so on.. (which none have seen the light of day since I bought them) except the juicer. (great machine)
I was in South Carolina where I knew no one, so that was good. My family didn't believe me. Apparently I cry wolf a lot about silly things and this seemed fit the bill. I had to opportunity to go home for 2 weeks right after I cut it so I did. I stepped off the plane in St. George and these were my dads exact words "What the hell did you do?"
But the funniest part about it all was that people would come up to me in public and say "Who cuts your hair? I love it" or "I have always wanted to cut my hair that short, you are so brave"
To that, I would laugh.
Oh great times. It eventually grew out and that was probably the worst part. Hair is really stupid if you think about it. Why do we obsess over the dead stuff that grows off the tops of our heads? I wish I could say I didn't care what I look like and honestly mean it. I had a friend who honestly meant it. She would shave her head every summer cause it would get to hot. A little extreme but she had a good point, who cares if you benefit.
p.s. these pics are probably a month after I shaved it
